Professional Development

The HUD OIG actively seeks to develop its staff to the fullest potential. Entry level Auditors attend a basic training course in their first year. This is supplemented by individual training programs, which include both classroom and on-the-job training. Auditors must receive a minimum of 80 hours of continuing professional education, every 2 years, in order to meet General Accounting Office audit standards. Entry level Special Agents attend a 9-week criminal investigation basic training course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. This is supplemented by advanced law enforcement and white collar crime courses. OIG Special Agents must also regularly qualify to carry and properly discharge a firearm. We encourage all OIG staff to continue their educational pursuits and enhance their technical skills. In addition to OIG funded training, HUD provides numerous in-service training sessions in computers, writing, communication, etc., which foster our staff's professional growth. We also encourage OIG staff to participate in professional organizations.
