HUD OIG is auditing the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opporunity (FHEO) fair housing and civil rights compliance reviews. FHEO has authority to conduct compliance reviews to determine whether a recipient of HUD funds was following applicable civil rights laws and their implementing regulations. Our objective is to assess how the Department , through FHEO and its partners, performed compliance reviews.

HUD OIG is evaluating the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO)’s oversight of State and local fair housing enforcement agencies.  To ensure the agencies are enforcing laws substantially equivalent to the Fair Housing Act, FHEO regularly assesses the State and local agencies' performance.

HUD OIG is conducting a review of HUD's Office of Residential Care Facilities.  Media reports have shown that the COVID-19 virus impacted nursing homes nationwide.  Our audit objective is to determine the biggest challenges that nursing home owners face related to COVID-19 and whether they are prepared to meet their future financial obligations.

HUD OIG is reviewing HUD's real estate owned (REO) program for Section 184 Tribal Trust land properties.  Through this program, HUD can sell foreclosed properties previously endorsed under section 184 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992.  The objective of the review is to determine whether HUD is appropriately tracking, marketing, and selling REO Section 184 Tribal Trust Land properties.

HUD OIG is auditing a Texas grantee’s 2015 disaster program.  In 2016 and 2017, HUD awarded the grantee more than $87 million to address unmet needs from disasters that occurred in 2015.  The audit objective is to determine whether the grantee administered and expended its 2015 flood disaster funding in accordance with HUD and its requirements.
