FHA Resource Center Inquiries on Discrimination

HUD OIG is auditing the Office of Single Family Housing Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Resource Center.  The FHA Resource Center is a valuable and useful tool for consumers that provides answers to consumers' questions or concerns on a variety of topics, including housing discrimination.  Our objective is to assess whether the FHA Resource Center appropriately rerouted inquiries related to housing discrimination, including discrimination in appraisals, to HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in accordance with its standard operating procedures.

HUD's Oversight of Multifamily Housing Properties with Failing REAC Scores or EH&S Deficiencies

HUD OIG is auditing HUD’s oversight of multifamily housing properties with failing REAC scores or EH&S deficiencies. There has been recent media attention and Congressional and public concern about the conditions of multifamily housing properties, in particular the health and safety of the individuals that reside in Federally subsidized and/or insured housing. The objective of the audit is to determine whether HUD has effective oversight of multifamily housing properties to ensure that the properties are brought to decent, safe, and sanitary condition in a timely manner.

Challenges Faced by Section 232 Nursing Homes During the Pandemic

We conducted a limited review of nursing home owners to identify their operational challenges and needs of nursing homes in responding to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.  Our objective was to determine the biggest challenges operators of Section 232 nursing home facilities face related to the COVID-19 pandemic and whether nursing homes are prepared to meet their future financial obligations.  Most of the owners who responded to our survey indicated that nursing homes experienced financial and operational challenges during the pandemic.  These ch

Approximately 31,500 FHA-Insured Loans Did Not Maintain the Required Flood Insurance Coverage in 2020

Develop a control to detect loans that did not maintain the required flood insurance to put $1.5 billion to better use by avoiding potential future costs to the FHA insurance fund from inadequately insured properties. Corrective Action Taken In November 2022, FHA published the Acceptance of Private Flood Insurance for FHA-Insured Mortgages final rule (Docket No. FR-6084-F-02) in the Federal Register and issued Mortgagee Letter 2022-18, Acceptance of Private Flood Insurance for FHA-Insured Mortgages (ML 2022-18).
